πFinished B.Tech and Still No Job? You Are Not Alone
Every year lakhs of engineering graduates finish B.Tech, BE, BCA or MCA without a job offer. Campus placements are limited, and most students graduate knowing a little of everything but not enough of one thing to clear an interview. The good news: the IT industry hires for skills you can prove, not just your college name. With a focused plan you can be job-ready in 3β6 months.
πStep 1: Pick One Role, Not Ten Technologies
The biggest mistake freshers make is learning Java, then Python, then React, then cloud, without finishing any of them. Recruiters hire for a role. Choose one:
Backend developer: Java, Spring Boot, SQL and REST APIs. The largest number of fresher openings in India.
Full stack developer: JavaScript, React and Node.js (the MERN stack).
Data analyst: SQL, Excel, Power BI or Tableau, and basic Python.
Software tester / QA automation: manual testing plus Selenium or Playwright. A great entry point for non-CSE graduates.
DevOps / cloud engineer: Linux, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS or Azure. Better as a second step after some development basics. If you are not sure which fits you, that is exactly what a career counselling session is for.
πStep 2: Learn the Fundamentals Properly
Whatever you pick, interviews test fundamentals:
One programming language in depth (Java or Python)
Data structures and basic algorithms
SQL and how databases work
Git and GitHub
For developers: OOP, how the web works (HTTP, REST)Skip nothing here. Weak fundamentals are the number one reason freshers fail technical rounds.
πStep 3: Build 2β3 Real Projects
Certificates alone do not get interviews. Projects do. Build things a company would actually use:
A REST API with login, a database and proper error handling (backend)
A full stack app like an e-commerce store or job board (full stack)
A dashboard analysing a real public dataset (data analyst)
An automation framework testing a real website (QA)Put every project on GitHub with a clear README, and deploy at least one so recruiters can click a live link.
πStep 4: Fix Your Resume and LinkedIn
Keep the resume to one page
Put skills and projects above education
Use numbers: "Built an API handling 1,000 requests/min" beats "Made a project"
Match keywords to the role you are applying for
Update LinkedIn with the same skills, a clear headline and your GitHub linkπStep 5: Apply Off-Campus, the Smart Way
Apply on Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed, Instahyre and company career pages
Ask alumni and seniors for referrals; they convert far better than cold applications
Apply to service companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Cognizant) and startups at the same time
Practise mock interviews before the real onesπStep 6: Give It a Fixed Timeline
A realistic plan looks like this:
| Month | Focus |
| 1β2 | Fundamentals + one language in depth |
| 3β4 | Framework/tools for your role + first projects |
| 5 | Final project, resume, LinkedIn, mock interviews |
| 6 | Apply daily, interview, improve from feedback |
πCourses That Match These Roles
Backend: Java Programming β Spring Boot
Full stack: MERN Stack or Full Stack Java
Data: SQL for Data Analytics and Power BI
QA: Software Testing & AutomationπStill Confused About What to Do After B.Tech?
